Farm Animals

We endeavour to provide our animals with a happy, natural life, living in groups outside as nature intended. Our animals are raised organically, and we focus on preserving heritage breeds. All of our animals live in the meadow during the day and come into the barn at night.

The Ferrandaise cow is a rustic breed of cow that originates from the Puy-de-Dôme region of France. It is a rugged, docile, and long-lived breed of cow that was traditionally used for milk, meat, and draught work. Today, there are less than 2000 of these cows and we are happy to do our part in keeping this beautiful breed in existence.

The Poitevine goat is an ancient breed of goat brought to western France from the Middle East with early nomadic farmers. Once prolific in this area and popular with dairy farmers, the breed has been all-but replaced by industrial alpine breeds. Now the breed is considered endangered and there are about 3500 goats left in France.

Our geese, chickens and ducks live together in the orchard, enjoying a 3000m2 enclosure where they can graze on grass, scratch in the dirt, eat insects, and stretch their wings like nature intended.

We also have Lusitano horses, a donkey, dogs and cats.

The Berrichon de l'Indre is a breed of sheep that originates from what was the Berry province of central France (what is now the departments of Creuse, Indre, and Cher). The present breed has stayed faithful to the original style of sheep. It is a rustic and hardy breed. The breed is strictly maintained but with only 1000 ewes in existence, it faces extinction.
